JOB OVERVIEW:
The head of IDP is a new position created to cope with the demands of the modern game. Every position on the field is played differently and every player in that position has a unique profile. For this reason, it will be crucial to understand and identify the key areas of improvement for each player and connect them with our player profiles core characteristics.
The Head of IDP has the responsibility to enhance the performance of individual players within a team context. To accomplish this task will be essential to offer continuous support to individual players, teammates around the player and staff involved in the player’s development.
Self-management, leadership and a positive attitude to build strong relationships with players and staff will be essential to complete the tasks assigned for this role.
INDIVIDUAL WORK:
- Identify individual needs during game for players in the second team and the U18s, U16s and U15s in the academy.
- Create individual, position and unit (2, 3, 4 players) training sessions to focus on a specific position and area of the field.
- Build training sessions and IDP programs aligned with the Atlanta United FC curriculum, style of play and player profiles.
- Deliver meaningful individual/unit training sessions after the team training and/or in a separate time slots at a different time of the day.
- Create weekly and monthly plans to have a clear mid and long-term development vision.
- Evaluate and monitor the development of the players.
- Quantify performance and compile minutes played by each player in each team in the academy to build comprehensive databases (including U14s and U13s).
- Coordinate the mid-season and end of the season individual reports for each team
- Strengthen the scouting network and player selection strategy to recruit high-quality players who can contribute to Atlanta United's success.
- Assisting other head coaches in team training sessions.
TEAM-WORK:
- To lead, manage and inspire coaches, assistant coaches and performance staff for the ATL UTD 2, U18s, U16s and U15s teams to implement the methodology and Atlanta United style of play.
- Work in collaboration with the Director of Methodology to deliver the academy soccer program with the technical position specific skills required for players at Atlanta United.
- Assist teams in the academy during specific training sessions, games and tournaments.
- Formulate opinions and create evaluations based on facts and share these evaluations with the head coach and staff for each specific team.
- To ensure that the staff in the academy live the academy standards and behaviors both, on the field and off the field.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- USSF B license or equivalent required.
- 5 years of experience in an academy of a professional soccer club.
- Computer literate with good knowledge of MS Office and Apple Software.
- Experience using key industry software (Wyscout, Hudl and Sportscode).
- Bachelor’s degree in sport sciences (desirable).
- Spanish and other languages is a plus.

Atlanta United FC is seeking an Academy Fitness Coach responsible for on-field fitness, strength training, and load prescription and monitoring to progress players through the Development Pathway. This role blends Long-Term Athletic Development (LTAD) principles with evidence-based training methodologies to build resilient, well-rounded athletes. Responsibilities:
Physical Development & Training Delivery:
- Design and deliver age-appropriate on-field fitness sessions emphasizing movement quality, speed development, and aerobic capacity
- Lead strength training programs focused on fundamental movement patterns, injury resilience, and athletic foundations
- Integrate physical preparation into technical training environments in collaboration with coaching staff
- Conduct individualized training for players requiring additional physical development or returning from injury
- Educate players on the principles of training, recovery, and performance optimization
- Collaborate and support individual develop plan sessions
Load Management & Monitoring:
- Collect and analyze GPS to inform training load decisions
- Monitor growth, maturation status (PHV), and readiness to inform individualized load prescription
- Communicate daily and weekly load summaries to coaching and medical staff
- Track training availability and flag concerning trends in workload tolerance or recovery
Testing & Assessment:
- Administer standardized physical performance testing protocols (e.g., CMJ, speed gates, YoYo)
- Analyze and report testing results to inform individual development plans
- Collaborate with medical staff on pre-participation physical examinations and return-to-play assessments
Player Development & Communication:
- Provide constructive feedback to players on physical performance and development trajectory
- Foster a growth mindset and resilience in young athletes navigating physical development
Collaboration & Integration:
- Work closely with technical coaching staff to align physical preparation with tactical and technical periodization
- Partner with Academy medical staff on injury prevention strategies and return-to-play progressions
- Coordinate with the Head of Developmental Performance and Academy Fitness Coaches across all age groups to ensure continuity in the Development Pathway
- Contribute to Academy-wide performance data infrastructure and reporting standards
Match Day & Travel:
- Attend home and away matches to oversee warm-ups, monitor substitutes, and manage in-game fitness interventions
- Support player recovery protocols on travel days and tournament weekends
- Coordinate with tournament hosts and facilities for appropriate training and recovery resources
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sport Science, or related field
- CSCS (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) or equivalent certification
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with youth athletes in a team sport setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of Long-Term Athletic Development (LTAD) principles and youth training considerations
- Experience with GPS/wearable technology and athlete monitoring systems
- Strong understanding of periodization, load management, and fatigue monitoring
- Excellent communication skills with ability to work effectively with youth athletes, coaches, and parents
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Willingness to work irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in related field
- CPSS (Certified Performance and Sport Scientist) certification
- Previous experience in soccer or academy football environment
- Experience with Catapult/STATSports/ PlayerData GPS, Vald ForceDecks, or similar technologies
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
